Why climb the Mountain

Why did the population of Musa Dagh decide to climb the mountain? Having been there I must admit it seems like a silly idea. Six years earlier in 1909 at the time Garobed and the family were killed a group of Armenians in Kessab decided to climb a mountain to escape the massacre there. A World Vision ship was passing and the group came down to the sea shore and many were saved and over 300 were killed. This is where the idea to climb Musa Dagh was born.
